Argument Blogs

As you know, this blog is done by two people. As you should also know, people have their disagreements. When two people disagree they will have an argument. So when Zack(I) and Oliver have an argument we will post what we call an argument blog where we will both state our opinions and you can decide who is right.

Double in One

Sometimes we will do more than one movie in one review in which case we will give you the rating for the movies separately and then as a whole. (If the rating is high on the whole we will not include it on our top ten). We call this a combined review

The Hurt Locker (2008)

Reviewed by: Zack Short
Rating: 7
The Hurt Locker was critically loved and praised. The screenplay was said to be second to none. I say it wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
I put this movie in with medium expectations. The story was good and the acting was good but nothing was at all superb. The main issues are big topics and tough to tackle. I feel that the issues weren't tackled properly and left me wanting. The movie is, however, cool and not boring to watch. I felt the theme of the movie wasn't completed and the story was lacking.
I must say that the cinematography was superb and I haven't seen its equal almost ever. The story has a very nice ending that leaves you hanging just enough to love it. I felt the ending was beautiful but the rest of the movie wasn't even close to its mastery.
The Hurt Locker is an intriguing movie that ends well but needs to be filled in. The cool story and action will keep you from boring but don't expect to be amazed.

I must disagree with my colleague just a little. While The Hurt Locker was definitely not all it was cracked up to be, it was still a great film and deserves some credit. The story is well played out and comes around for a nice "circle ending". Although it is true some issues could have been portrayed better, the acting and cinematography were in fact, superb. Too bad nothing else in the movie could quite reach that rank. Now the movie was good but when it is unbalanced like that it doesn't deserve film of the year. If you go into this film expecting a perfect masterpiece from God, which is what many critics make it sound like, you will be disappointed. But it is still a great movie I would recommend to anyone.
